hi!. I have myself plus all local Bands including young bands
willing to play for nothing if we can get 1 or 2 big name bands
such as wolfmother,(i say wolfmother because one of the co-organisers
has looked at there price and apparently it's not to expensive),
Sarah mcleaod, etc. The council is behind us in our endeavour
to create such a concert here in Narrandera. We have a great venue
here which i can give you more detail on if your interested in
helping us. Our local contingent of bands is of a high quality
with myself being a finalist of APRA'S Professional Development
Awards and very tight rock'n bands from here have no problem obtaining
work in hotels around the region.Plus there are some great young
bands here just itching to get some live playing time for experience
and exposure. Hope you can help,
Regards, Sameera Bashir
P.S We also have local groups like Rotary and the Lions club willing
to help in any way response

Peta,
just finished a meeting with our school nurse and chaplain, and I
have obtained more details and have a few questions.
Do you have specific criteria to meet? - Is there an application form?
We are looking for funding with the hope to have 3-5 local youth bands
play a 5 song set each and a band from Town called 'Remedy'; plus
any assistance with stage and sound set up.
The day is maybe going to be called the 'Oakey Youth Festival' to
be held on the 21st of April 2007 from midday - 8:00pm in the grounds
of the Oakey SHS.
The aim of the day is to -
empower the youth of Oakey and educate them and their parents about
contemporary youth issues and pathways for their futures
provide real life experience for students involved
have fun
Let me know if you need any more details or certification from the
powers to be.
Cheers

Subject: RE: Light Up The Halls
Hi Peta
I just wanted to touch base to thank you for such an insightful and
positive email, and to remind you of my artistry and music again.
It's been a while.
I am still based in Los Angeles, touring the States, but I do appreciate
being kept informed on ARC activities.
Attached is my updated epk. Not only a music artist (I was recently
interviewed in Newsweek for my self-made success on the Internet),
I'm also an actor and writer. Last month I ran a rock music camp for
kids where 9-15 year olds played in a band, wrote a song, studied
their chosen instrument, and end of week performed the song at a concert
for the families. I also am President of Songsalive!, the non profit
organization supporting and promoting songwriters worldwide, with
the base in Sydney, and chapters all across the U.S and Canada.
I wanted to also bring to your attention another artist, J.Walker
(happens to be my partner), who is a spoken word artist. He is American
but spent his childhood around different parts of the globe. What
is interesting about him is he's also a counselor by day to at-risk
youth in south central L.A dealing with various troubling home issues
with them, and uses rap and lyric writing with them to connect with
them (their "language" so to speak) and let them express
themselves. He calls this Rhymecology and he works with rap music
and basketball to connect with them over here. I have since researched
that the Aboriginal kids also love rap music and basketball and so
I see an obvious similarity with what J. is doing over here. Attached
is info on him also.
What interests me with ARC is for us both possibly come down, perhaps
next year, and do tours of the outback schools. With a certain kind
of funding, we could travel to schools in Central Australia and up
north in N.T, running workshops in lyrics, theater and music, plus
do performances.
It's an idea only in concept form right now, but certainly something
to ponder, and to propose to ARC.
Anyway, ideas for now. Thanks for keeping me posted on your news.
All the best

As discussed with you via phone, I am the newly appointed Youth Development
Officer for the Yorke Peninsula in South Australia. The youth of all
towns are screaming out for live performances. I would really like
to be involved in your funding available to bring live bands to the
Yorke Peninsula. Since I am employed by both Councils in the Yorke
Peninsula, venues such as town halls will not be a problem.

Hi
I currently work in youth services and I help young people put on
shows for young people in the area, this is funded by the Victorian
governent and has been a huge success for all involved. As a result
the local council have asked me to run more musical traning and concerts
for the people of West heidelberg who suffer from economic and social
disadvantage. There are also thousands of young refugees in this area
that will also benefit from music programs. I am donating my time
to seek solutions and find funding to run some music programs and
events in this area.
Is there anyway you can help the young people of West heidelberg?
If you require any further information please do not hesitate to ask.
I am committed to helping develop these young peoples future prospects.

Hi Peta,
I do have two other venues in mind. Both which are smaller in size
and will hopefully suit what you guy's had in mind. One is at the Monto
Shire Hall. This venue is available at any time (providing it is not
booked) at no cost to the Youth.
The other venue is Munjurrum Hall in Eidsvold. Again there is no charge
on this venues when it is a youth function.
If these suit than please let
me know.Regards,

Hi Peta,
sorry I haven't replied sooner. I however, passed your details onto
a local resident in Monto who is planning on holding a concert in
Monto. I wasn't sure if you could assist him as his focus was more
at the whole community (as they are planning on selling alcohol at
the concert). Well the venue I had in mind was Eidsvold show grounds.
I haven't sought approval from the Eidsvold council as of yet. I was
hoping to hold a huge Youth Festival for the district. I would also
love to hold a concert in Monto, however, if the youth festival was
in Eidsvold than the surrounding towns like Monto, Gayndah & Mundubbera
would be able to attend. I think it would be cool to even invite young
people from the coast over as well. Your know a coast to country theme.
If you can help I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks.

Subject: Question re funding
Hi,
I am the local health promotion officer and am part of our Rural health
Team, that promotes well being via early intervention projects.
We have a real issue in our community with rural youth decline.Following
a recent forum held, one of the outcomes that the community thought
would help our community, was to provide entertainment for our youth
at local venues
Earlier in the year we held an open air concert with a band. Prior
to the band playing we had several local young musicians show case
their music. We would like to continue to do this, however like all
ideas it requires a lot of funding.
Does your funding support such events?

Subject: RE: north qld
thanks Peta. i'm waiting to hear about post-cyclone funding for
a business recovery plan, and as i mentioned want to look at opening
an all ages venue here at mission beach. i've got a hall in mind
(it's "The Snakehouse" at an ex-crocodile farm) and would
be able to negotiate some form of a lease on it. I did the first
gig there on Friday, with Ghanaian band "Wala", and the
Paradise Park Festival committee ran the bar as a fundraiser. is
arc able to work directly with me, as a for-profit promoter, to
put on regular monthly all ages gigs here in north qld? or do we
need to go through the nfp (currently they take the bar and i take
the door)
we're looking at brisbane band "neighbourhood groove collective"
for our next gig in november, who aren't on your list, but would
love to talk about putting a program together for 2007. we're also
planning a festival at the venue in september 07.
i'd really appreciative some guidance with the production side of
setting up the venue, what's the minimum i can start with and what
i should be working towards ... the stage, the rigging, the gear,
the acoustics ... (on friday we lined the hall with removalists
blankets & sari's!) i've got good community contacts, and might
be eligible for further assistance from state development if the
business plan looks viable.
it would be awesome if we could work together to put on some all
ages gigs here, looking forward to hearing from you, thanks for
your time,
cheers ... jay

Hi Peta,
I saw your note in the music regarding arranging gigs. I manage
a Melbourne based band, Famous By Association.
FBA have been making a fair dent on the music scene since signing
to indie label Basin Records at the start of the year. They released
their debut EP in July accompanied by a sell out launch at the
Evelyn Hotel, Fitzroy and appeared on Rove Live as the house band.
Having formed over three years ago FBA have developed a strong
following and a tight, energetic live show, playing alongside
the likes of Kisschasy, Something with Numbers, After the Fall,
Angela's Dish, Starky and Horsell Common.
We are heading up to Sydney at the end of September, it would
be great if you could help us pick up some gigs along the way.
